Michael Ammar at Surrey
There are lecturers you enjoy. And then there are lecturers who make you go home, stare at your props, and quietly accept you’ve been doing at least three things the hard way for no good reason.
On Thursday 5 June 2025, we had the pleasure of welcoming Michael Ammar to the Surrey Society of Magicians for a brilliant evening of close-up magic, method, and (crucially) the kind of thinking that turns “a trick” into a moment.
What made the night special
Michael’s lecture was a mix of signature material, time-tested classics and a few surprises - but the real value was the why behind it all.
The handling, the structure, the pacing, the tiny subtleties you don’t notice until you suddenly can’t unsee them. It was practical, professional, and taught with real clarity.
If you were there, you’ll know what we mean. If you weren’t, we hope we’ll see you at the next one.
Thank you, Michael (and everyone who helped make it happen)
A huge thank you to Michael Ammar for visiting Surrey and for being so generous with his time and thinking.
An extra thank you as well for taking the time to sign so many books, and for patiently letting what felt like nearly the whole club grab a quick selfie with him.
Thanks as well to everyone who helped get the date in the diary and welcomed Michael on the night.
Come along to a Surrey Society night
If you’re not a member and you’re curious about joining us, we run a friendly programme of lectures, workshops, competitions and “at home” nights.
Keep an eye on the club calendar and come say hello.
